3 Things I’ve Been Looking Forward To Wearing This Autumn

Getting the autumn winter clothing box down off the top of my wardrobe is always a moment of genuine seasonal excitement for me. Firstly it means that the temperatures have cooled enough to warrant entertaining the idea of layers and a knitwear but not only that I get to spend a few moments trying to remember what was packed away, failing and then being happily surprised at my discoveries! This year’s top three were no exception on the rewear excitement front although one has the twist of coming from someone else’s wardrobe instead of mine.

First up are my Mabel Jersey trousers in olive green that I bought last year. These I’d actually forgotten about and was very happy to reacquaint myself with their super soft jersey, just the right amount of balloony shaped leg and super comfortable elasticated waistband. Because not every day calls for buttons and zips. They did sell out but it seems you can sign up for the waitlist again which in my opinion, would be absolutely worth it. Proven by the fact that when I pulled them on and danced around the room in them again, I went straight online and bought the black pair for this year because I know I’ll wear them on repeat.

Next is the super warm navy sweater I was gifted by Heidi Klein a couple of years ago. They don’t make it anymore but its so good it inspired the recent Consider A Navy Sweater post in a newsletter… which a few of you did and bought the almost similar versions from Navy Grey and With Nothing Underneath. I stand by the sentiment that you can’t go wrong with a classic navy knit and I’ll be living in this all winter long.

And last but by no means least… the piece that came from someone else’s wardrobe - this Barbour Fulbourn utility jacket I bought from Vinted. I always hold my breath until a pre-loved purchase arrives as you never quite know if it will turn out to be as good as you hoped… but thankfully this one didn’t disappoint. There are a few kicking about on eBay too but I don’t think they’re available to buy new anymore… and I love that it’s Barbour without being overtly Barbour if you get what I mean?

Since the temperatures have finally dropped here in the UK, I’ve worn this sweater a few times already. It’s chunky enough to keep me warn whilst I’m sitting still at the desk and looks great layered over shirts and long sleeve T-shirts. When you pair it with jeans, a classic stripe shirt and leather loafers, it gives me instant Fall in Boston vibes!

I have a satin skirt from Uniqlo like this one - mine is a cinnamon brown shade and the one I’ve shown here is more of a rich chocolate hue - but they both work with navy. They also come with an inner liner skirt - well-played Uniqlo. I wear it with chunky boots to bring down the dressy factor of a satin skirt for daytime… and I’m quite impressed that I clicked away before I added that gingham bag to my bag!

Seeing as the olive green jersey trousers aren’t available right now, I’ve used my new black pair for the purposes of a dress up/dress down show and tell here. The freezing cold, sitting still at my desk days not only demand the layering top underneath, but a scarf and cosy socks help too. Comfortable enough to sit in and work all day but not too shabby when I venture out to do the food shop later!

And speaking of comfort - at the point of writing this post, we have a rare occasion of a weeknight dinner out with friends at The Pig tonight… cue much joy! So comfort and an elasticated waist is entirely necessary… which might be frowned upon by some, but not when you add cute flats, a fancy shirt, earrings and red lipstick. My days of feeling trussed up to go out are over so this fits the bill (and a three course dinner) very nicely thank you!
